The Veronika room is a romantic double room furnished in a pleasant rustic style. The room has a balcony with a view of our estate.

There is also a generously large wardrobe, a small table, a chair, free WiFi, and a cot can also be provided.

Veronika of Desinić (or Veronika Deseniška) was a noblewoman of lower rank from Desinić. When Friderik II of Celje saw her on one of his hunting expeditions, romantic sparks flew. This marked the beginning of a story reminiscent of Romeo and Juliet. Although Veronika was warned, she completely devoted herself to Friderik. They lived together at Fridrihštajn Castle in the Kočevsko region and dreamed of their future together. As often happens in stories such as this one, the firm hand of his father, Herman, came between them. Herman first imprisoned his son and then began to hunt for Veronika. She sought sanctuary like a hounded animal in various hiding places until she was finally captured. She was convicted of witchcraft and of bewitching Friderik. In a way, she did, but to everyone’s surprise, the town court acquitted her. But Friderik’s father certainly did not! He instructed Friderik’s friend, the knight Jošt of Soteska (Jošt Soteški), to kill her. And once again the fate of the House of Celje played out at the nearby Ojstrica Castle. This is where Jošt fulfilled his dark task and drowned Veronika. When Friderik discovered the fate of his beloved Veronika, the stars in his eyes were extinguished. And the stars of the House of Celje also began to go out.

Today, only remains testify to the greatness of the Celje Family, and the stars on our coat-of-arms are there to remind us of them. However, the love between Friderik and Veronika overcame all obstacles and continues to be an inspiration today.
