The ‘Friderik’ room
The Friderik room is a double room furnished in a pleasant rustic style. The room has a balcony with a view of our estate. There is also a sufficiently large wardrobe, a small table, a chair, free WiFi, and a cot can also be provided.
Count Friderik II of Celje was meant to become a major figure of power in Europe. His mighty father, Herman II of Celje, saw his son as the fulfilment of all the family’s efforts to expand and solidify the power of the House of Celje. However, as was common in the Middle Ages, love got in the way of political scheming and calculating. When it was already evident that Friderik would become his father’s successor and further expand their holdings with territories acquired through marriage, he unexpectedly fell in love with the young Veronika of Desinić. His love for her overwhelmed him to the point that he no longer cared about a marriage of convenience, about power, or about his father’s plans. He believed that their love would overcome all the obstacles that they might encounter in life. But he was so wrong. The cold and calculating Herman showed no mercy. He persecuted his young son and Veronika, wishing to forcefully put an end to their love. He tricked Friderik and imprisoned him at Ojstrica Castle, the ruins of which are quietly resting in our vicinity to this very day. The hunt for Veronika, however, had only just begun.
